Green Light - One Hour Light
Buyer has one (1) hour to check for any major drive train
defects, after which the vehicle must be settled for immediately.
Do not settle until you have checked your vehicle. You will
lose your right to arbitration, after vehicle is paid for. One
defect must total $500.00 before car is subject to arbitration,
unless declared unsafe by arbitrator. Major defects found must
be settled through arbitration, who has absolute final word.
Vehicles are not subject to arbitration for any visible defects.
The buyer assumes all responsibilities for mechanical failure after
leaving the premises. Check Arbitration Rules
for further regulations. Vehicles $1000.00 and under are
automatically "AS IS" transactions, regardless of light system.
No arbitration. Transactions should be settled for
immediately! Vehicles not guaranteed to pass Sate Inspection.
Yellow Light - Announced Conditions
Caution - Any announced conditions that the seller
wants the buyer to be aware of so that the vehicle is represented
fairly. Be advised that there is a condition with this unit.
If you did not hear the announced condition, IMMEDIATELY STOP
AUCTIONEER AND ASK THAT THE ANNOUNCED CONDITION BE REPEATED.
Vehicles $1000.00 and under are automatically "AS IS" transactions,
regardless of light system. No Arbitration. Transaction
should be settled for immediately!
White Light - Mileage
Vehicle has in excess of 100,000 miles, 200,000
miles, etc., true mileage unknown (TMU), exempt, speedometer broken
or not working properly or any other odometer problems. No
Arbitration. Transaction should be settled for immediately!
Blue Light - Title Delay
Assignable title does not accompany vehicle.
May require up to 20 days including weekends and holidays for title
to arrive at Gettysburg Auto Auction, after which the title can be
picked up or mailed upon request. BUYER IS CAUTIONED NOT TO
PUT ANY MONEY INTO THE VEHICLE UNTIL TITLE IS RECIEVED. Our auction will not be responsible for
transportation of other expenses on a returned vehicle.
Vehicles sold under blue light must be paid for at time of sale. Seller will not receive a check from
auction until title is received. A service fee of $25.00 will
be deducted from sellers check for vehicle sold without an
assignable title by 5PM Friday after sale. In matters of
interpretation on title policy, the decision of auction management
shall be final. Vehicles $1000.00 and under are automatically
"AS IS" transactions, regardless of light system. No
arbitration. Transactions should be settled for immediately!
Red Light - "AS IS"
Sold "AS IS" vehicle must be paid for immediately.
VEHICLE IS NOT ARBITRATABLE FOR ANY REASON. (Except-
See frame policy under Arbitration rule).
ALL VEHICLES SOLD FOR $1000.00 AND UNDER ARE SOLD STRICTLY "AS IS".
NO ARBITRATION, NOT INCLUDING RUSTED OR DAMAGED FRAMES. All
R.V.'s, motorcycles, trailers, classic & antiques 25 years and
older, flood cars or reconstructed vehicles sold "AS IS".
| 1. | All buyers must be 18 years of age or older. | |
| 2. | Please examine all vehicles before bidding. You may inspect vehicles on the outside lot before they are auctioned. No test drives allowed. | |
| 3. | Listen carefully to all announcements. Be familiar with the light system and selling policies. The auction lanes are frequently crowded, therefore, be sure the auctioneer sees your bid. Raise your hand each time you bid. At all times stay behind the yellow line. | |
| 4. | Know what you are bidding on before your bid. For example, make sure it is not a standard transmission when you want an automatic or that it has 30,000 miles and not 130,000 miles, once you bid it is your vehicle. | |
| 5. | Subject to the seller's approval, the last bidder is the absolute purchaser, and is obligated to pay for the vehicle. | |
| 6. | Successful purchasers must immediately report to the auction block and sign the Bill of Sale. Check accuracy of agreement before signing. | |
| 7. | The successful bidder must leave a cash deposit of 20% or $500.00, whichever is greater. In addition, your credit card can be held if you choose to pay your entire transaction with that card. If you use a credit card, you automatically assume the responsibility of being charged $500.00 for a deposit. A buyer fee will be added to your vehicle cost (fees are posted in the main office.) The balance of the purchase price must be paid within two (2) working days (Monday following the sale.) | |
| 8. | Visa, MasterCard and Discover will be accepted for deposits and purchases with a 3% surcharge added to the total amount charged to card. | |
| 9. | To finish your transaction, go to the public office and pay your balance. No vehicle can be removed from auction until paid in full. | |
| 10. | To receive temporary tags you must have a valid insurance card with the insurance company name, policy number, agent's name and effective / expiration date. This information must be issued by the insurance company. | |
| 11. | Your paid receipt is your gate release. Test driving is not allowed on lot for the safety of others. | |
| 12. | After vehicle is settled for all sales are final and the obligation of this company ceased except for frame damage and rust. (See Arbitration rules.) | |
| 13. | "IF SALES" are strictly between the buyer and seller are not binding on either side until the sale has been consummated. After settlement, the vehicle becomes the "AS IS" property of the buyer. | |
| 14. | No personal checks will be accepted. Only cash, certified checks or credit cards will be accepted as forms of payment for any purchase. | |
| 15. | Any defects whatsoever be the title, mechanical or serial number are the responsibility of the buyer after leaving auction premises. | |
| 16. | PA buyers must pay tax, title, tag and documentation fees, all PA title work is submitted to PennDot by Gettysburg Auto Auction. All out of state public buyers must pay tags and documentation fees. Tax, tags and title will be paid in state of residence. |
| 1. | You must have a clear title in YOUR name. Your
name must appear on the face of the title. If the
seller is not the title owner they must possess notarized
power of attorney before the vehicle is auctioned.
Titles with the following defects WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED: Alterations Erasures Wrong Digits Improper Reassignments Jumping Signature Missing Forms Documents Not Notarized Open Titles These vehicles must be announced. |

| 2. | Vehicles that are unsafe to operate will not be run through auction. | |
| 3. | Upon arrival at Gettysburg Auto Auction, park the vehicle to be sold under the car port, please leave your keys, go into the public office to register that vehicle for the sale. | |
| 4. | At this time a clerk will ask for your TITLE to complete the paperwork. DO NOT GUESS or approximate the mileage. It must be accurate. You are responsible for the correct mileage. | |
| 5. | The fee to register a publicly owned vehicle is $25.00. If the vehicle is sold, a sellers fee will be deducted from your check. If you wish to re-run your vehicle on the same day, the fee is $20.00 per re-run at the end of the lane. | |
| 6. | A light system is used at the auction block to indicate the conditions of "HOW" you intend to sell your vehicle. Use the LIGHT SYSTEM GUIDE to determine the "conditions" that must be announced. Be sure they are noted on your block ticket. | |
| 7. | You must stand by the auctioneer on the block to sell your vehicle. Tell the auctioneer what price you want for your vehicle. | |
| 8. | When the bidding is completed, the auctioneer will tell you the amount of the highest bid. It is your decision whether to accept or reject the bid. | |
| 9. | Gettysburg Auto Auction does not guarantee a sale. Our staff will make every effort to legally complete the transaction between final bidder and seller. Should Gettysburg Auto Auction for any reason fail to complete that transaction then the sale shall be considered a "NO SALE" | |
| 10. | IF YOUR VEHICLE IS SOLD proceed to the public office. Sale becomes binding when buyer pays deposit and signs sales slip. Once sold, seller loses all rights to any part of that vehicle. Please be patient, in some instances the buyer has one hour to arbitrate the vehicle. You will receive a guaranteed auction check. All checks will be made out to the person whose name is on the title. The auction is not responsible for personal effects left in the sold unit. If any loose item is to be sold with the unit, please tell the registration person at carport. | |
| 11. | IF YOUR VEHICLE IS NOT SOLD pick up your title at the information window in the public office. If you choose to remove your vehicle from the sale for whatever reason, before it goes on the block, you will forfeit the $25.00 registration fee. |
If you plan to arbitrate your vehicle, go to the Arbitration Office. Buyer has one (1) hour to check for any major drive train defects when bought under the Green Light over $1000.00. No Exceptions. One defect must total $500.00 before car is subject to arbitration unless declared unsafe by arbitrator. Major defects found must be settled through arbitrator who has absolute final word. The buyer assumes all responsibilities for mechanical failure after leaving the premise. Any accepted adjustment automatically becomes an "AS IS" transaction. Vehicle can only be arbitrated one time. Check before any title work is done, if the title work is completed you can not arbitrate for any reason.
You can reject a vehicle for the
following reasons:
Engine Knock
Frame damage that was not announced
Misrepresentation of mileage
Clutch or transmission slippage
Serial numbers that do not match
Differential grind of growl, excluding tires
Vehicles bought "AS IS" costing over $1000.00 can be rejected
for frame damage that was not announced.
You CANNOT reject a vehicle for the
following reasons:
Visible defects such as body
damage, broken or cracked glass, torn upholstery, etc.
Air conditioner, radio, heater, electrical equipment,
emission equipment, power equipment, accessories, etc.
Exhaust system*
Spare tire or jack
Smoking or blow by
After market equipment
Trunk keys or door keys
Any computerized equipment
Dead battery or faulty alternator
Any drive train changes or alterations
Power steering unless declared unsafe
Wheel alignment and front suspension
Engine mounts and transmission mounts
Backlash in drive train including drive line
Valve noise unless accompanied by engine miss
Oil, gas or water leaks
* All green light vehicles over $1000.00 with the catalytic
converter removed and not announced are subject to arbitration for
the one hour period after time of sale.
* Check before any title work is done. If title work is
completed you can not arbitrate for any reason.
Frame work and rust policy
All vehicles sold with "Green Light" or "Red Light" over
$1000.00 with rusted or damaged frame, floor boards, unitized body
or cab mounts must be announced, even if repaired. Buyer has
24 hours from the time of sale to check for problems. AFTER 24
HOURS ABSOLUTELY NO ARBITRATION.
